20 Dec Steve and Phil’s Mountainous Challenge!
Whilst we all get ready for the festive season to kick off, two members of the Brit Sec Board will be watching the number of mince pies consumed over the next few weeks – as they are in training for one of the biggest physical challenges they have ever faced.
CEO, Steve Withers and Brit Sec’s Quality and Compliance Director, Philip Scattergood, will jet off to Nairobi in February 2019 in order to conquer the formidable Mount Kenya. Why? All in the name of empowering women in rural Kenya to reach their full potential. The climb is to raise funds for Team Kenya who work tirelessly to ensure that all girls have access to quality education and that it is provided in a safe environment. In addition to this, they empower women by working together in order to develop marketable skills which will enable them to provide for themselves and their families. The end goal is to essentially enable every woman to have an equal chance to achieving their potential.
Steve and Phil’s Mountainous Challenge
Climbing to 5,199 metres, Mount Kenya is the second tallest mountain in Africa. The scenery surrounding this designated World Heritage Site is breathtaking. The trek will take Steve and Phil from dusty lowlands through ancient forest and unique glacier-sculpted alpine heath, up to jagged volcanic peaks and glistening glaciers. In the 2800sq km National Park there are over 800 recorded plant species with 81 species being endemic to Mount Kenya. They will also see a wide variety of wildlife such as elephant, buffalo, bushbuck, waterbuck, zebra, hyena, colobus monkey and Monte Kenia Rock Hyrax. The climb itself will take place over 5 days and will take determination to complete but We think that Steve and Phil are up to the challenge!!
